About the Role

Bedrock is deploying autonomous systems on heavy construction equipment, improving safety and accelerating project schedules. This role involves owning the hydraulic and electro-hydraulic actuation systems for various construction machines, ensuring precise control and reliability in demanding field conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Reverse-engineer and document OEM hydraulic circuits, producing ISO 1219 schematics and characterization data.
  • Design retrofit electro-hydraulic interfaces for precise autonomous control while maintaining manual operation.
  • Specify and size hydraulic components based on performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with the safety team to define safe states and failure behavior for hydraulic actuation.
  • Work with controls and software engineers on valve modeling, compensation, and tuning.
  • Define hose and tube routing, manifold placement, and packaging within machine constraints.
  • Plan and execute hydraulic system tests and validate performance.
  • Provide hands-on support for prototype builds, including plumbing and commissioning.
  • Lead technical engagement with hydraulic suppliers throughout the procurement and validation process.
  • Maintain hydraulic system documentation, including schematics, BOMs, and service procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Agricultural/Fluid Power Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience designing, integrating, or testing hydraulic and electro-hydraulic systems for mobile machinery.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic fundamentals, including circuit types, valve operation, and schematic interpretation.
  • Solid grounding in fluid mechanics as applied to hydraulic systems.
  • Hands-on experience with pressure/flow instrumentation and data acquisition.
  • Familiarity with CAN/J1939 and hydraulic simulation tools is a plus.
  • Exposure to functional safety standards (ISO 13849, ISO 25119) is a plus.
