About the Role

ChargeTronix is seeking a Senior DC Fast Charger Technician to serve as the escalation point for complex faults, commission new sites, mentor junior technicians, and ensure territory uptime. This is the top technical field position on the service team, working directly with hardware and providing feedback to engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair Tier III escalations, including power electronics, control boards, contactors, cooling systems, and cable assemblies.
  • Repair at the component level, prioritizing component repair over full-unit swaps.
  • Interpret PLC, CAN, and OCPP logs to isolate root causes and capture evidence for engineering and warranty.
  • Provide remote phone and video support to junior technicians.
  • Commission new installations, verifying electrical service, grounding, firmware, network connectivity, and payment systems.
  • Conduct acceptance charge tests and sign off on site readiness.
  • Maintain and update the test-vehicle fleet and run interoperability tests.
  • Execute field upgrade and retrofit campaigns.
  • Own territory uptime, mean time to repair, and first-time-fix rate, reporting on metrics weekly.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and recommend checklist improvements.
  • Identify repeat fault patterns, determine root causes, and create field service bulletins and work instructions.
  • Manage truck stock and territory spares, tagging and returning failed parts with failure data.
  • Train and mentor Tier I/II technicians, signing off on their readiness.
  • Write and maintain SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and training materials.
  • Act as the primary on-site contact for customers, site hosts, contractors, and inspectors.
  • Perform job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout, and arc-flash risk assessments as an NFPA 70E qualified person.
  • Hold and exercise stop-work authority.
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with NEC, local codes, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Complete field service reports and close tickets on the same day as the visit.
  • Proactively communicate issues, delays, risks, and parts needs to the service manager with proposed solutions.
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, vehicle, and PPE in calibrated and organized condition.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on electrical or electromechanical field service experience.
  • 3+ years of experience specifically on EV charging equipment.
  • At least 2 years of experience on DC fast chargers (50 kW and above).
  • Demonstrated component-level repair on DCFC hardware (power modules, control/communication boards, contactors, cooling) and cable/connector replacement (CCS, NACS, CHAdeMO).
  • Experience with 480 V three-phase systems and high-voltage DC.
  • Proficiency in reading one-lines, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Track record of training or leading other technicians, or writing procedures for others.
  • Current NFPA 70E qualified-person training, or completion within 60 days of hire.
  • OSHA 10 (OSHA 30 preferred).
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (including low-voltage rescue), or completion within 60 days of hire.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check and DOT-style medical clearance for a company vehicle.
  • Working knowledge of NEC (Article 625), NFPA 70E, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S.
  • Proficient with multimeters, clamp meters, insulation-resistance testers, and torque tools.
  • Ability to use an oscilloscope or data logger when necessary.
  • Ability to read charger logs and communication traces (PLC, CAN) to identify charge session failures.
  • Basic understanding of networking for connected chargers (Ethernet, cellular modems, Wi-Fi, RS-485) and backend connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Comfortable using ticketing and CRM tools (Salesforce, Zendesk, or similar), Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
  • Ability to write clear field reports.
  • Independent and decisive on site, knowing when to seek assistance.
  • Customer-focused, maintaining composure with site hosts and drivers.
  • Reliable performance during heavy travel, with effective route planning.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Trusted to make safety and repair judgment calls on site.
