About the Role
Mason is building AI systems to accelerate the development of the built world, addressing challenges like housing shortages and energy constraints. This role involves leading engineering efforts, making technical decisions, and driving the delivery of complex enterprise AI deployments, with an initial focus on hands-on engineering.
Responsibilities
- Build and review backend, data, and AI systems for enterprise deployments.
- Own engineering architecture and make decisions on system design, vendors, and build-versus-buy.
- Translate company and customer priorities into engineering goals, plans, and ownership.
- Manage project delivery, identify risks, and resolve blockers.
- Coach engineers, provide feedback, and ensure accountability for outcomes.
- Establish standards for correctness, security, testing, observability, and production systems.
- Collaborate with the deployment team to align customer commitments with shared infrastructure.
- Assist in hiring and developing the engineering team.
Requirements
- Substantial recent experience designing, building, and operating production software, with at least four years of engineering work.
- Demonstrated leadership of engineers or a significant technical initiative with multiple contributors.
- Strong system-design judgment and ability to engage with code and implementation details.
- Evidence of setting priorities, making tradeoffs, and delivering through uncertainty.
- Ability to provide direct feedback, manage difficult conversations, and enhance team effectiveness.
- Clear communication with founders, engineers, and customer stakeholders.
- High ownership and ability to independently manage engineering work.
