About the Role

As the Applications Engineer, you will own the technical qualification for non-standard opportunities, building and maintaining the framework to determine site or deal viability. You will make final technical fit/no-fit calls, translating field conditions into requirements and assessing commercial consequences, with direct insight into cost per MW, capital expenditure, and deployment schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own TAR's technical qualification framework for non-standard opportunities, including criteria, screening tools, and decision gates.
  • Make final technical fit/no-fit calls on sites and deals, often with incomplete information, providing clear recommendations with assumptions, risks, and conditions.
  • Tie technical recommendations to commercial consequences like $/MW, capex, and deployment schedule for transparent deal pricing and commitment.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for development, business development, and partner teams on non-standard opportunities.
  • Walk sites with development teams to translate field conditions into technical and execution requirements.
  • Assess electrical fit, including generation, storage, islanded operation, distribution, power quality, redundancy, and protection.
  • Evaluate thermal and civil interfaces to determine data center load deployability and operability.
  • Test opportunities against TAR's execution capabilities, including equipment lead times, supply chain, construction capacity, and partner capabilities.
  • Feed field and deal learnings back into TAR's standard designs, equipment standards, and execution playbook to identify and resolve recurring gaps.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering degree with deep, hands-on electrical power experience.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience, with significant time in applications, solutions, or pre-sales engineering, owner's engineering, or project development for data centers, power, or critical infrastructure.
  • Strong electrical power systems background including MV/LV distribution, single-line diagrams, utility service, protection and redundancy topologies, and relevant codes (NEC, IEEE).
  • Working fluency in thermal/cooling, civil/site work, and construction/deployment to identify flaws and estimate cost/schedule impact.
  • Demonstrated business judgment in translating technical conditions to capex, $/MW, and schedule impact, and in making go/no-go decisions.
  • Proven ability to make sound decisions quickly with incomplete information, clearly stating assumptions, risks, and confidence levels.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to travel regularly for site walks and partner meetings.
