About the Role

Grover is seeking a mid-senior-level Legal Counsel to join its in-house Legal team. This role will serve as a trusted advisor across commercial, contract, labor, and compliance matters in core European markets, focusing on DACH, the Netherlands, and Spain. The Legal Counsel will partner with various departments, draft and negotiate commercial agreements, advise on labor law, and leverage AI tools for modern legal operations.

Responsibilities

Serve as the trusted, pragmatic legal advisor for teams across all departments, including product, marketing, supply chain, procurement, engineering, and customer support.
Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements with an agile, risk-balanced approach.
Steer legal topics across core markets (DACH, the Netherlands, and Spain), ensuring alignment with evolving consumer protection and e-commerce regulations.
Advise People & Culture on day-to-day and structural labor law matters.
Represent Grover in court in civil and labor law proceedings where strategic.
Champion modern legal operations by utilizing cutting-edge AI tools and automated workflows.

Requirements

First State Examination (Erstes Staatsexamen) or a comparable university law degree (e.g., Master of Laws / LL.M.) with above-average academic results.
Candidates with foreign law degrees must have hands-on professional experience within the German market.
2+ years of practical commercial law experience within a leading law firm or in-house legal department (either obtained in Germany or supported by German legal education).
Prior experience as an in-house counsel within a tech startup, scale-up, or dynamic e-commerce business is strongly preferred.
Strong grasp of German civil, contract, and consumer protection law.
Hands-on experience with individual and German labor law is a distinct plus.
An entrepreneurial 'own-it' approach.
Proactively spot bottlenecks and solve problems without waiting for instructions.
Ability to quickly build subject-matter competence in unfamiliar regulatory areas.
Exceptional communication skills (C1 minimum) in both German and English.
Ability to distill complex legal risk into concise, executive-ready guidance.
Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
An active interest in leveraging generative AI tools to rethink how in-house legal teams work.
