About the Role

NG Bailey Facilities Services is seeking a General Maintenance Operative for a prestigious contract covering a high-quality office building in Tower Bridge. This role involves first-line general maintenance and M&E contractor support, contributing to an exceptional workplace environment. The ideal candidate will be proactive, notice what needs attention, and act on it, engaging confidently with clients and guests.

Responsibilities

  • Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM), compliance checks, and reactive tasks within competence and agreed service levels.
  • Carry out routine M&E activities, including emergency lighting checks, plant room inspections, and low-level maintenance.
  • Conduct daily floor walks and resolve minor fabric and space issues (e.g., lamp replacement, window/door repairs, blocked sinks, heating checks).
  • Support client-facing room/suite set-ups according to business and event team criteria.
  • Complete water hygiene and water treatment tasks in accordance with the applicable Approved Code of Practice (ACOP).
  • Undertake minor project works, building fabric repairs, and redecoration to maintain premises.
  • Maintain plant, plant rooms, tools, and stock to a high standard, reporting defects and replenishment needs.
  • Coordinate and monitor subcontractors, ensuring compliance with documentation, access permits, and site requirements.
  • Support local building improvements, accommodation changes, and room set-ups for meetings, events, and conferences.
  • Use Concept (MRI) and other reporting systems to accurately update tasks, records, and documentation.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience in general or building maintenance, ideally within a commercial environment (ideally but not essential).
  • Ability to complete scheduled PPM and routine tasks independently, using sound judgment and escalating issues appropriately.
  • Practical awareness of building services and controls, such as building management and lighting control systems.
  • Good health and safety awareness, including a basic understanding of fire safety and workplace safety requirements.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills, with a professional approach at all levels.
  • Good attention to detail, organisation, and prioritisation, with the ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Confident computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and the ability to learn new systems and processes.
  • A proactive, self-motivated, and flexible approach, including willingness to work outside normal office hours when required.
  • A genuine interest in developing your skills and progressing your career within Facilities Services.
