About the Role
As Principal Designer, you will own the Avantos design system end-to-end and lead design on our core product surface, the Agent Portal. This is a senior individual-contributor craft role focused on setting the craft bar and defining what excellent looks like across an AI-native platform.
Responsibilities
- Own the Avantos design system end-to-end, including the component library, design tokens, pattern language, and contribution rubric.
- Set craft direction across the design team through the system, ensuring shared patterns and tenets define quality.
- Lead design on the Agent Portal, our most-trafficked surface, where the system is first implemented and tested.
- Author and evolve design tenets in partnership with the Head of Design to codify the meaning of design at Avantos.
- Develop designers through critique, mentorship, and modeling rationale-driven thinking.
- Represent design in cross-functional product and client conversations requiring senior craft judgment.
Requirements
- 8+ years of product design experience with craft leadership that has demonstrably improved design standards at a company.
- Deep expertise in product design fundamentals: interaction, information architecture, visual craft, and systems thinking.
- A proven track record of authoring adopted design systems, tenets, or patterns.
- Mastery of Figma and the ability to evolve a design system as a living set of patterns.
- Fluency in prototyping across various mediums, including code and AI.
- Genuine curiosity about how AI is changing design, software, and team workflows.
- Comfort operating as a senior individual contributor and craft anchor without direct reports.
- Fluency in B2B SaaS or fintech complexity; financial services experience is a plus but not required.
