About the Role
An investor-backed financial technology startup is seeking a talented Software Engineering Intern / Placement Student to work alongside its founding team in New York during Summer 2027. The team is building infrastructure that helps businesses access financing against unpaid invoices. You'll tackle meaningful engineering challenges involving payment prediction, intelligent collections, and AI systems that turn complex financial information into actionable decisions.
Responsibilities
- Build systems that learn from payment histories, identify debtor behavior, and predict when invoices will actually be paid.
- Help develop policies that determine when to contact debtors, which communication channels to use, and how to adapt outreach.
- Feed payment and collections signals back into decisions about financing future invoices.
- Follow problems across the frontend, backend, data infrastructure, and AI systems.
- Work directly with lenders and credit teams to understand their workflows and improve the tools they use.
Requirements
- Students at any university seeking a summer internship, placement-year opportunity, or year-in-industry experience.
- Solid coding ability and confidence learning from technical documentation.
- A strong interest in AI, large language models, and real-world software applications.
- Curiosity and the ability to reason across different systems.
- Initiative, humility, optimism, and a willingness to tackle difficult problems.
- A commitment to building useful software and learning from feedback.
- Potential, judgment, and ability to learn matter more than years of experience.
