About the Role

Gusto is seeking several Staff Product Designers to join their Money and HR Experience product organizations. These teams focus on high-stakes, AI-native surfaces where small businesses make critical financial and people decisions. The role requires strong judgment, taste, and craft to transform ambiguity into trustworthy products and define new patterns. This posting is for five open roles across Gusto Money, Banking, and HR Experiences, with opportunities in Consumer Banking, Gusto Money (MoneyOS), HR Experiences (HRX), and Retirement.

Responsibilities

  • Own design end to end in your domain, from framing ambiguous problems to shipping high-craft, accessible experiences.
  • Shape goals, priorities, and roadmap in partnership with PM and engineering leads, balancing customer trust, business value, and technical realities.
  • Translate ambiguous, often 0→1 strategy into clear scopes, flows, and interaction patterns, including new patterns for Gusto.
  • Design AI experiences thoughtfully, considering uncertainty, error handling, customer agency, and human intervention.
  • Ground decisions in customer insight, leading or partnering on research, competitive audits, and hypothesis-driven exploration in high-stakes domains.
  • Raise the craft and systems bar by evolving Gusto's design system.
  • Work in fast cycles, use AI tools, prototype, ship to customers, and iterate based on learnings.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of product design experience owning and shipping end-to-end work, ideally in B2B SaaS, fintech, or another high-trust domain, with strong craft across web.
  • Experience designing AI-enabled or conversational experiences shipped to real users, with concrete examples of handling uncertainty, errors, and human override.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and 0→1 problem-solving, including framing problems, scoping work, and moving forward without perfect information.
  • Strong systems thinking, including using and contributing to a design system and knowing when to evolve it.
  • Judgment to evaluate and direct AI outputs, including when to use, override, and raise the bar for AI.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across design, product, engineering, and data.
