About the Role

The Workplace Engineering team at Modular is responsible for Security, IT, and AI Enablement, ensuring employees can perform their work safely and effectively. This role focuses on the IT pillar, managing systems critical for employee productivity from day one. Key responsibilities include identity and access management via Okta, onboarding/offboarding processes, SaaS application portfolio management, and the AI-powered help desk agent. The role involves both operational tasks and strategic development, aiming to automate and improve existing systems. Candidates ready to grow into a broader scope are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Own and expand the Serval-powered help desk agent, including designing workflows, growing its knowledge base and integrations, and tuning escalation routing.
  • Serve as the escalation point for tickets the agent cannot resolve, identifying root causes and automating recurring issues.
  • Manage the end-to-end onboarding and offboarding process, ensuring prompt and complete employee transitions.
  • Automate the path from Okta to downstream applications for onboarding and offboarding.
  • Administer Okta for identity management, including SSO, SCIM provisioning, lifecycle management, and policy design.
  • Manage the SaaS application portfolio, overseeing administration, license management, vendor relationships, and renewal decisions.
  • Write and maintain runbooks, documentation, and knowledge articles for IT operations and the help desk agent.
  • Partner with Security and AI Enablement teams to ensure integrated controls across identity, endpoint, and support systems.

Requirements

  • Experience and interest in owning AI-driven frameworks applied to IT processes like onboarding/offboarding or identity lifecycle.
  • Fullstack developer background with proficiency in modern programming languages.
  • Understanding of modern distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, or similar).
  • Comfort working with REST APIs to connect SaaS systems.
  • Experience in IT engineering, systems engineering, or corporate IT, preferably at a fast-growing tech company.
  • Okta administration experience, including lifecycle management, SCIM provisioning, policy design, and application integration.
  • Experience running or significantly improving a help desk or service management function.
  • Experience administering a SaaS portfolio, including licensing, renewals, vendor management, and making data-driven decisions.
  • Sound judgment balancing security and user experience.
  • Strong written communication skills for documentation and explaining technical tradeoffs.
  • Strong identification with the company's core cultural values.
