About the Role

The Robotics Software Engineer builds the software that makes robots in automated manufacturing cells aware of their surroundings and able to react dynamically. This role owns the robotics software stack, integrating various hardware components and supporting on-site commissioning. You will have the opportunity to shape robotics software development and see its practical application.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the robotics software stack for automated cells, from sensor input through motion.
  • Write ROS 2 nodes for perception, planning, control, and coordination between machines.
  • Integrate robot arms, grippers, sensors, and cameras into working cells alongside PLC and SCADA layers.
  • Build simulation environments for behavior validation before deployment on hardware.
  • Handle calibration, coordinate frames, and tolerance stack-up for part seating.
  • Tune cycle time and reliability, maintaining performance across shifts and part variations.
  • Support on-site commissioning and bring-up, including debugging with real parts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering field, or equivalent experience.
  • Engineer: 2+ years of experience building robotics software that shipped on real hardware.
  • Senior: 5+ years of experience building robotics software that shipped on real hardware.
  • Strong ROS 2 experience, including shipping a product on real hardware.
  • Working knowledge of the ROS 2 stack: DDS middleware, QoS settings, lifecycle nodes, launch, and colcon builds.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python.
  • Working knowledge of kinematics, transforms, motion planning, and trajectory execution.
  • Experience integrating sensors and interpreting real-world data.
  • Comfort with simulation tools such as Gazebo, Isaac Sim, or MuJoCo.
  • Practical understanding of mechanical and electrical constraints.
  • Senior level additionally owns the robotics software for a full cell end to end, makes architecture decisions, leads integration with controls and vision engineers, and mentors junior teammates.
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined in 22 CFR 120.62 or eligible to obtain required authorization due to ITAR/EAR controls.
