About the Role
The Hamlin School Culinary Services is seeking a temporary full-time cook to prepare creative, healthy lunches in a scratch kitchen for approximately 500 students and staff daily. This role operates in a fast-paced, friendly, open kitchen environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparation, cooking, and assembly of hot and cold food according to daily/weekly menus.
- Ensure timely preparation, safe cooking temperatures, and attractive presentation of food for lunch service.
- Create one vegetarian soup and one daily composed salad.
- Assist with prepping for the next day's menu, including marinating/cooking meats and cutting vegetables.
- Properly store prepped food, determining what leftovers can be reserved, frozen, or packed for students/faculty.
- Assist with organizing walk-in refrigerators as needed.
- Communicate daily prep lists with the Culinary Director and Sous Chef.
- Maintain a clean and orderly workstation.
Requirements
- 2+ years of professional kitchen experience required.
- Spanish language proficiency preferred.
- Passion for high-quality ingredients, efficiency, and hospitality.
- Ability to work eight-hour shifts.
- Ability to stand, squat, or walk for extended periods.
- Ability to grasp, reach overhead, push, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Awareness of allergen protocols.
- Must be able to provide a valid work permit if under 18 years of age.
- Must be able to provide negative tuberculosis screening.
- Must register and clear Livescan.
- Must complete Mandated Reporter Training (web-based).
