About the Role
As Director of Cloud Infrastructure and Security, you will lead a team of six senior individual contributors across Cloud Infrastructure (DevOps/SRE) and Security. This is a hands-on role where you will set strategy and roadmap, and work directly with the team on architecture, technical decisions, incidents, and delivery. You will be accountable for the reliability, cost-efficiency, and security posture of production environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and retain a team of six engineers across Cloud Infrastructure and Security.
- Define a joint roadmap for both teams, aligned to business priorities and risk appetite.
- Establish clear KPIs, SLOs, and risk metrics, and report regularly to leadership on reliability, cost, and security posture.
- Set the operating model for self-service versus central ownership.
- Foster a culture where reliability and security are shared accountabilities.
- Own the AWS and GCP footprint end to end, including EKS, networking, secrets, data stores, and edge services.
- Establish a reliability engineering practice with SLOs, error budgets, capacity planning, and business continuity.
- Drive infrastructure-as-code maturity with Terraform, GitOps (ArgoCD), and policy-as-code (Kyverno/OPA).
- Consolidate observability into a single source of truth for metrics, logs, and traces.
- Improve developer experience and delivery throughput through CI/CD, paved roads, and on-demand test environments.
- Own FinOps, focusing on infrastructure cost per business value and cost accountability.
- Support the modernization of the core platform, including tech migrations and upgrades.
- Systematically attack toil by automating recurring requests and enabling safe self-service.
- Grow foundations for AI-augmented engineering and operations.
- Own security strategy and posture across cloud, application, identity, detection, and response.
- Strengthen cloud security posture management (CNAPP) and secure-by-default configurations.
- Embed security into the SDLC and CI/CD, establishing static-analysis and dependency-scanning coverage.
- Mature vulnerability management, penetration testing, and bug bounty programs.
- Advance identity and access management toward least privilege and zero trust.
- Mature logging, detection, and incident response capabilities.
- Set guardrails for safe AI adoption and defend against AI-enabled threats.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, PCI DSS v4, NIS2, and CIS v8.
- Collaborate with legal and finance teams on compliance and forensic investigations.
- Manage third-party and supply-chain risk.
- Own and manage security-built services, deciding on their future.
- Own endpoint security and partner with Corporate IT on device and identity coverage.
- Keep security awareness and training relevant to the evolving threat landscape.
Requirements
- 8+ years of significant experience in Infrastructure, Platform Engineering, DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Security.
- Experience leading engineers.
- Experience as an Engineering Manager, Senior Engineering Manager, or Head of ready to broaden scope.
- Strong practical experience with public cloud, ideally AWS, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure-as-Code.
- Willingness to remain close to architecture, incidents, and technical delivery.
- Track record of establishing reliability practice at scale (SLOs, incident management, on-call, capacity planning, disaster recovery).
- Demonstrable cloud cost optimization / FinOps results at meaningful scale.
- Strong grounding in cloud and application security fundamentals (IAM, network security, secrets management, CSPM, OWASP Top 10).
- Judgement to know when to hire depth in areas of weakness.
- Working knowledge of compliance frameworks (GDPR, DORA, PCI DSS, NIS2) and turning requirements into practical controls.
- Experience leading through incidents and security events under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical trade-offs and risk decisions to different audiences.
- Comfortable operating with a lean team, prioritizing ruthlessly, automating over headcount, and pragmatism over perfection.
