About the Role
The Department of Data Science at William & Mary seeks a tenured Professor specializing in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-intensive research. This role focuses on addressing large-scale computational problems with societal impact, with a particular interest in generative AI, NLP, and Physical AI.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research, teaching, and service to the university.
- Establish and maintain a vibrant, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program.
- Inspire undergraduate students and support Master's and Ph.D. students.
- Teach one course per semester.
- Teach compelling courses in natural language processing and other lecture/seminar formats.
- Contribute to the development of an emergent curriculum around generative artificial intelligence.
Requirements
- Hold a Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, or a closely related field by August 10, 2027.
- Possess previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate and graduate research.
- Demonstrate a track record of externally-funded research.
- Show extensive scholarly achievement.
- Exhibit intellectual leadership and international visibility in AI and data science research.
