About the Role
RGA Japan is seeking a Director, Underwriting & Business Solutions with life and living products underwriting experience to drive underwriting initiatives, product development, data analytics, and risk controls. This influential role impacts new business growth and RGA’s brand in innovative business solutions, risk management, and underwriting excellence.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Chief Underwriter, Head of Underwriting & Claims, and teams in Underwriting, Business Development, Product Development, and Pricing to identify and develop new business opportunities into concrete UW Business solutions that drive profitable growth.
- Provide efficient and courteous service to internal and external clients, maintaining specified timelines and quality.
- Partner with Business Development, Pricing, and Medical Doctors to lead UW gap analysis and develop tailored UW Business solutions for priority clients.
- Work with Business Development, Pricing, medical doctors, and Product Development to provide UW input on reinsurance tenders and new product development, assisting with assumption setting, pricing, and development of relevant UW solutions.
- Liaise with RGA experts across local, regional, and global teams to identify, discuss, and obtain approval for new underwriting business solutions.
- Develop strong relationships with product management and underwriting teams.
- Gather product and underwriting intelligence from direct companies and distributions.
- Participate in client meetings to present new ideas, address concerns, and resolve challenges.
- Regularly visit current and prospective clients to conduct marketing presentations on RGA’s UW Business Solutions.
- Work in client offices to proceed with projects as required.
- Present at business development or industry seminars.
- Lead and support the team by undertaking other activities and projects within the scope of the Underwriting and Business Solutions team as needed.
Requirements
- Over 10 years of relevant experience in the life insurance or life reinsurance industry.
- Substantial experience in underwriting, business planning, product underwriting, data analytics, or project management.
- Good knowledge of insurance trends, products, UW practices, and distribution, with the ability to apply and communicate this knowledge.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Creative, agile, and open-minded with a flair for taking up challenges and delivering solutions within agreed timelines.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to build professional relationships with various stakeholders.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Native Japanese language skills (spoken and written).
- Basic to conversational English skills.
