About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Auth team, responsible for the authentication and sign-in experience for over 70 million users. This role involves working on the entire authentication path, including user-facing flows, backend services, session management, and observability. You will utilize TypeScript, Node, React, and AWS, collaborating with Product, Security, and platform teams to enhance security and user experience. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on owning and perfecting a critical, foundational aspect of the product, directly contributing to Linktree's mission of empowering users to manage their digital presence.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship authentication and identity experiences including signup, login, social auth, account recovery, and multi-factor authentication.
- Own end-to-end services for session and token lifecycle, revocation, rate limiting, and APIs used by other teams.
- Collaborate with Security to enhance authentication security and with Product to optimize login conversion.
- Extend identity and access management for business accounts and Workspaces, including Single Sign-On (SSO).
- Implement and maintain observability for authentication, including instrumentation, alerting, and dashboards.
- Integrate and leverage AI in development processes for migrations, testing, and investigations.
- Improve team standards through code reviews, pairing, and documentation, and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a preference for experience in auth, identity, platform, or payments-adjacent teams.
- Solid full-stack skills in TypeScript, Node.js, React, GraphQL, PostgreSQL or MySQL, and AWS, with the ability to work across all layers.
- Working knowledge of authentication and identity fundamentals such as OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWTs, session management, MFA, and common attack vectors.
- Experience safely shipping changes to high-traffic, critical path systems using techniques like feature flags, staged rollouts, and ensuring backward compatibility.
- Fluency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Codex) including prompting, validation, and refinement.
- Pragmatic approach to balancing security with user experience, with confidence in communicating trade-offs.
- Clear communication skills for effective collaboration with product, design, and security partners across different time zones.
- Ability to work from our Melbourne or Sydney office on a hybrid basis.
