About the Role
EIP is seeking a Director of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) to serve as the strategic financial partner to the CEO and leadership team. This role focuses on helping EIP decide which work to pursue, how to price it, how to staff it, and how to fund growth by building models and analyses that turn proposals, contracts, and program data into clear recommendations. This is a hands-on, working director role where the leader will personally create the models, pricing tools, and planning processes from the ground up, with the opportunity to grow the function and add analyst support as EIP grows.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain EIP's company-level financial model, including revenue, staffing, overhead, cash flow, and scenario analysis.
- Update financial models as contracts are won, programs change, and assumptions shift.
- Partner with business development and program leaders to price RFPs and proposals.
- Develop labor, fringe, overhead, and subcontractor cost assumptions for pricing.
- Test pricing scenarios and recommend bid prices and contract terms that meet margin and cash targets.
- Develop standard pricing models, rate structures, and bid review checklists.
- Analyze revenue, direct labor, subcontractor costs, overhead allocation, utilization, and gross margin for every program.
- Identify what is working, what is not, and what drives program performance.
- Build models to determine if a program can support additional staff and the impact on margin and cash.
- Evaluate EIP's mix of programs, clients, funding sources, and contract types.
- Recommend which types of programs to pursue, grow, renegotiate, or exit.
- Analyze billing cycles, payment terms, receivables, and cash timing across programs.
- Recommend strategies to improve cash conversion and reduce working capital needs.
- Model EIP's capital needs under different growth scenarios.
- Evaluate lines of credit, CDFI loans, contract-backed financing, and other options.
- Support the CEO in lender discussions with projections and analysis.
- Lead the annual budget and rolling forecasts in partnership with leadership and program managers.
- Translate expected awards, staffing plans, and delivery assumptions into financial projections.
- Develop dashboards and key metrics for leadership on program margin, utilization, pipeline, backlog, and cash.
- Present clear findings and recommended actions to leadership.
- Provide analysis for leadership on new opportunities, new markets or offices, major hires, investments, and strategic initiatives.
- Work with Administrative Services and the accounting team to define data, project coding, and reporting structure for analysis in NetSuite and related systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.
- At least six years of progressive FP&A, corporate finance, or financial analysis experience.
- Experience leading analysis or planning work at a senior level.
- Expert-level Excel skills.
- Demonstrated experience building driver-based financial models, scenario analyses, and cash flow forecasts from the ground up.
- Experience pricing proposals, bids, or contracts, including labor rate build-ups, overhead allocation, and margin analysis.
- Proven ability to analyze profitability by program, project, client, or business line and turn findings into actionable recommendations.
- Strong understanding of working capital drivers, cash conversion, and how contract terms affect cash flow.
- Ability to work closely with operations and business development leaders.
- Ability to explain financial tradeoffs in plain language.
- Ability to influence decisions.
- Ability to present complex analysis clearly to the CEO and leadership.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to make sound recommendations under uncertainty.
- MBA, CFA, CPA, CMA, or a comparable professional qualification is preferred.
- FP&A experience in professional services, consulting, utility program implementation, government contracting, or another multi-project organization is preferred.
- Familiarity with utility, state agency, or government RFP pricing and with fixed-price, time-and-materials, cost-plus, and performance-based contract structures is preferred.
- Experience modeling capital needs and supporting lender, CDFI, or investor discussions is preferred.
- Experience with NetSuite, Power BI, or similar tools for project financials and dashboards is preferred.
- Experience supporting a growing company with multiple offices, programs, or business lines is preferred.
- EIP does not offer visa sponsorship for this position.
