About the Role

Manage all maintenance functions to ensure maximum productivity and economic function of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Cogeneration Plant (BNYCP). This role involves managing daily maintenance, identifying areas for improvement, ensuring plant safety and environmental compliance, and directing personnel in safe and reliable maintenance practices.

Responsibilities

Manage the daily maintenance of the plant.
Identify areas needing improvement or further development.
Ensure plant safety and environmental compliance.
Direct Maintenance personnel in safe and reliable maintenance practices.
Coordinate, schedule, and conduct mechanical, electrical, and I&C corrective, predictive, and preventive maintenance of all power equipment.
Maintain the plant CMMS (Maximo).
Lead, plan, and execute minor and major outages with support from other plant personnel.
Ensure Maintenance Procedures are reviewed, updated, and adhered to.
Ensure Maintenance Staff are up-to-date with training and qualifications.
Collaborate with the Operations team to prioritize workload.
Ensure safe and quality maintenance of plant equipment, buildings, and grounds.
Take corrective action in accordance with procedures and at the direction of the Plant Manager.
Direct Maintenance personnel in equipment inspection and repair.
Verify work order completion in a timely manner.
Determine plant maintenance requirements through preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
Review, evaluate, and prioritize maintenance work orders.
Conduct periodic inspections of the plant.
Provide direction, supervision, and feedback to employees.
Ensure safety rules and plant procedures are followed.
Perform and assist in troubleshooting activities.
Supervise and oversee Maintenance personnel skill improvement, training, and safety programs.
Ensure an adequate number of trained personnel are available.
Mentor maintenance personnel and prepare them for advancement.
Sustain morale and motivation of maintenance personnel.
Handle concerns and issues as they arise.
Assist with screening and hiring of personnel.
Develop and administer contracts and work scopes for external contractors.
Plan, schedule, and manage plant outages and overhauls.
Conduct/Support Regular Safety Meetings.
Address Safety at all Group Meetings.
Respond to all safety-related incidents.
Write reports explaining incidents, identifying causes, and recommending corrective actions.
Follow up to ensure corrective action is taken.
Maintain plant Maintenance Manuals.
Assure maintenance policies and procedures are kept up-to-date.

Requirements

A technical undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience is required.
Extensive experience in natural gas fired combined cycle power plant operations and maintenance is highly desired.
Experience with LOTO process and procedures is desired.
Working knowledge of instrumentation and controls, electricity, rotating equipment, power plant mechanics and operations are highly desired.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and controls with attention to detail desired.
Experience managing plant outages with multiple contractors.
Experience supervising hourly personnel.
Strong leadership and motivational skills are required.
Valid driver's license required.
Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.
Work with hazardous materials may be required.
Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required.
'On call' status will periodically be required.

Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills desired.
Proficient in time management skills.
Strong proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project, etc.) and CMMS/Maximo systems are required.
