About the Role

Break Through Tech is launching a new 16-week LLM Red Teaming program to equip undergraduate fellows with the knowledge, mindset, and skills to ethically probe large language models for safety and security vulnerabilities. As an LLM Red Teaming Coach, you will guide fellows through innovative jailbreaking techniques, help them build a portfolio of documented breaks, and prepare them for a red teaming competition. This role is crucial in shaping the next generation of AI safety and security talent.

Responsibilities

Prepare and facilitate live virtual events, including building supplementary slides and concept reviews.
Monitor fellows' progress in Canvas and grade portfolio deliverables.
Provide feedback on portfolio deliverables.
Host virtual office hours and engage with fellows in Discord to answer questions and lead discussions.
Model and reinforce ethical red teaming practices.
Design and facilitate concept reviews and hands-on practice activities for Workshops and Maker Days.
Review pre-scheduled red teaming challenges prior to events and guide fellows through them.
Create and monitor breakout rooms to ensure compliance with program requirements and ethical standards.
Address fellow concerns and provide feedback for success and engagement.
Track attendance and ensure survey completion.
Review SME-developed course content weekly to anticipate support needs.
Provide technical mentorship on LLMs, red teaming, and jailbreaking concepts.
Monitor and respond to curriculum-related questions in Discord.
Proactively reinforce ethics, responsible disclosure, and safety precautions.
Provide written and oral feedback on fellows’ red teaming attempts.
Find and share timely resources in Discord.
Attend and actively engage in weekly Community of Practice meetings.
Review assignments submitted by fellows in Canvas, providing written feedback and scoring.
Review knowledge check activities to identify areas where fellows are struggling.
Partner with program staff to identify fellows not meeting expectations and assist with intervention.

Requirements

Demonstrated aptitude for LLM red teaming, assessed through an exercise and a relevant work sample.
Experience using large language models (LLMs) and advanced prompt engineering techniques.
Commitment to ethical, responsible red teaming practices and the ability to model and uphold them.
Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience evaluating and providing constructive feedback on technical work.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Experience planning and facilitating live events, workshops, or group discussions, ideally in a virtual setting for an undergraduate audience.
Commitment to developing inclusive and equitable working relationships with fellows from diverse backgrounds.
Must participate in approximately 10 hours of pre-program training in early January 2027.
Must be available to facilitate 8 events (four 90-minute Workshops and four 3-hour Maker Days) on to-be-determined dates from January-May 2027.
