About the Role
This role anchors the settlements function and will evolve into an expanded design and ownership role within the Insurance Operations team as the department scales. You will own the flow of funds between Incline’s program partners, reinsurers, and legal entities, end to end, understanding the mechanics behind each settlement and driving your work to completion.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and process reinsurance and program partner settlements in line with contractual terms and close deadlines.
- Investigate and understand the root cause of reconciliation breaks, incorrect entity balances, or transaction discrepancies.
- Apply knowledge of program insurance economics, quota share, ceded and assumed positions, general agent disbursements and receipts, trust accounts, and fund flows among parties.
- Own monthly settlement-account reconciliations across multiple entities, identify and resolve open items, and escalate only necessary issues.
- Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for general agents, brokers, reinsurers, and banking partners on settlement matters.
- Propose and help implement improvements to templates, controls, reporting, and documentation using systems like Duck Creek and Workday.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly settlement reporting for internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Assist with internal cashflow forecasting activities.
Requirements
- Ability to diagnose issues before acting, investigating context, transactions, counterparties, contracts, and prior periods when instructions are ambiguous.
- Capacity to hold and apply context across entities, adjacent programs, and moving parts.
- Ability to interpret complex data and apply accounting principles to real-world facts.
- Comfort learning new systems through use, including ERP and insurance platforms.
- Familiarity with fronting-carrier economics, quota share arrangements, ceded/assumed reinsurance mechanics, and general agent fund flows.
- Ability to represent the company professionally to external partners, providing solutions and resolving questions independently.
- Proactive identification and resolution of fragile processes.
- Taking responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks.
- Ability to move work forward with incomplete information and ask sharp questions.
- 5+ years in accounting, financial operations, or insurance/reinsurance settlements.
- P&C program or fronting-carrier experience strongly preferred.
- Working experience with an ERP (Workday preferred) and an insurance system (Duck Creek preferred).
- Strong Excel skills required.
