About the Role
Engineering at Blue Light Card is integrating AI into its workflow, utilizing modern AWS infrastructure and tools like Claude Code and Cursor to enhance development speed. Multiple Full Stack Engineer roles are available to build digital experiences for millions of UK frontline workers. These roles focus on TypeScript backends and AWS infrastructure, requiring a deep understanding of how these components integrate. The ideal candidate will leverage AI tools effectively, understand their contributions, and remain accountable for their work.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship high-quality TypeScript backend services and APIs
- Design, build, and maintain AWS serverless infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code
- Develop features across our full-stack environment, including React and Next.js
- Use AI tools such as Claude Code and Cursor to speed up work, choosing when they help and when they don't
- Review and test AI-generated code, explaining its function and rationale
- Participate in agile ceremonies and collaborate with Product and Design to refine requirements and deliver predictably
- Monitor production systems, resolve issues, and contribute to continuous improvement
- Share knowledge about working with AI and support colleagues through learning sessions
Requirements
- Proven experience delivering production-ready full-stack applications
- Depth in TypeScript backend and API patterns
- Working knowledge of React
- Strong understanding of AWS infrastructure, with hands-on use of serverless and Infrastructure-as-Code tooling (e.g., CDK, CloudFormation, SST)
- Confidence to design, deploy, and troubleshoot AWS infrastructure
- Experience across the full engineering lifecycle (technical discovery, solution design, testing, release, operational support)
- Ability to weigh trade-offs with minimal supervision
- Strong record of maintaining high engineering standards (clean architecture, automated testing, observability, performance optimisation)
- Hands-on experience using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) with judgment to evaluate their output
- Ability to clearly explain technical decisions, AI contributions, and rationale
- Experience working in cross-functional teams, communicating engineering considerations to Product, Design, and stakeholders
- Experience sharing knowledge through pairing, mentoring, or leading discussions
