About the Role
The Enterprise Apps Engineer II is a senior technical contributor responsible for the administration, automation, and continuous improvement of the firm's SaaS application stack, with deep platform ownership of the Atlassian suite and broader enterprise portfolio. The role requires taking ambiguous operational challenges and developing practical, scalable solutions using scripting, automation, AI, and platform ecosystem tools. The Engineer designs sophisticated Atlassian workflows, automation rules, integrations, and governance frameworks, serves as a technical escalation point for complex SaaS issues, leads strategic automation and integration initiatives, and mentors junior team members.
Responsibilities
- Architect, configure, and continuously optimize Atlassian Cloud platforms including Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Confluence.
- Design and implement complex workflows, automation rules, custom fields, permission schemes, and notification schemes.
- Develop advanced automation solutions using Jira Automation, REST APIs, webhooks, and scripting.
- Lead integration projects connecting Atlassian platforms with identity providers (Okta), development tools (GitHub), CI/CD pipelines, and other enterprise systems.
- Establish and enforce governance frameworks including project templates, naming conventions, permission models, and data retention policies.
- Evaluate, implement, and manage Atlassian Marketplace apps to extend platform functionality.
- Lead platform upgrade and migration initiatives with minimal disruption to business operations.
- Monitor platform performance, usage analytics, and health metrics; proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Serve as the primary escalation point and subject-matter expert for complex Atlassian technical issues.
- Partner with Security and Compliance to ensure the Atlassian platform meets enterprise security standards and regulatory requirements.
- Optimize license utilization and manage product access across the Atlassian suite.
- Lead proof-of-concept initiatives to evaluate new Atlassian features, capabilities, and marketplace apps.
- Implement, manage, and administer a wide variety of SaaS applications including Zoom, Slack, Okta, and Microsoft 365.
- Provide technical direction on the selection and implementation of new applications and services.
- Serve as an escalation point for junior team members on complex SaaS issues.
- Drive automation and integration across the enterprise application portfolio, including through the creative application of AI tools and platforms.
- Design and deliver training programs, documentation, and best-practice guides for administrators, project managers, and end users.
- Produce clear, accurate, and accessible documentation — including guides, FAQs, runbooks, and configuration records.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across Engineering, Product, Operations, and Business teams to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Mentor junior team members on Atlassian administration, enterprise SaaS tooling, and automation best practices.
- Collaborate with Atlassian support and account teams to resolve critical issues and contribute to product roadmap discussions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience) required.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience administering and supporting enterprise SaaS applications, with at least 3 years focused on the Atlassian platform (Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management).
- Expert-level Jira administration: project configuration, workflows, schemes, custom fields, automation, and JQL.
- Strong Confluence administration: space management, permissions, templates, macros, and content organisation.
- Proven experience with Atlassian automation tools including Jira Automation; experience with ScriptRunner a plus.
- Experience with Atlassian REST APIs and standard integration patterns.
- Demonstrated experience with ITSM processes and Jira Service Management implementation.
- Hands-on experience administering Zoom, Slack, Okta, and Microsoft 365 in an enterprise environment.
- Experience with identity management and SSO integration (SAML, OAuth, Okta).
- Knowledge of Agile and DevOps methodologies and their implementation in Jira.
- Atlassian certifications (ACP-100, ACP-600, ACP-620) strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with middleware tooling and experience working with users on both Windows and macOS.
Skills
- Advanced technical proficiency with the Atlassian platform suite and its ecosystem of integrations and marketplace apps and billing.
- Strong scripting and automation capabilities with a track record of building custom solutions that reduce manual effort.
- Intellectual curiosity and strong diagnostic instincts: able to reason through unfamiliar systems, form and test hypotheses, and arrive at root causes in complex, distributed SaaS environments without a documented playbook.
- Stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and communicate progress clearly.
- Strong project management skills with experience leading technical initiatives from planning through to delivery.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write clear, accessible documentation and explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new tools, frameworks, and capabilities quickly — including AI assistants, automation platforms, and low-code/no-code tooling — and apply them creatively to solve problems and accelerate delivery.
- Strong customer service orientation with a passion for enabling user success and delivering an outstanding experience.
- Collaborative mindset with experience working across cross-functional teams and managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Resourceful approach to problem-solving that spans traditional scripting, automation platforms, and AI tooling — able to identify the right tool for the job, prototype quickly, and validate solutions iteratively rather than defaulting to the most obvious path.
- Continuous learning mindset with a genuine curiosity about emerging AI capabilities, automation platforms, and SaaS industry trends; actively experiments with new tools and shares knowledge with the team.
