About the Role

OE Tech is the engineering and product organization within Octopus Energy. This role offers significant ownership, variety, and the opportunity to shape products that positively impact users' lives by reducing bills, promoting green living, and enhancing customer experiences. You will collaborate with teams across services, marketing, operations, and data, witnessing the real-world impact of your work swiftly. In North America, Octopus has invested in Uplight, and this Product Manager position will focus on our North American initiatives there. Uplight provides software for managing energy resources in homes and businesses, including smart devices and user behavior, to balance the grid, improve efficiency, and reliability, thereby accelerating the clean energy transition and saving customers money. The goal is to scale up without compromising the customer journey for low-carbon technology. This role specifically focuses on the core user experience of optimizing smart devices, ensuring it is seamless for both customers and program managers overseeing demand response programs at scale. You will enable energy companies to reliably utilize aggregated smart device load shedding for scalable, resilient, and user-friendly dispatch. Collaboration with engineers, customer operations, and field teams is key to shaping digital products that scale electro-tech in homes. The culture is flat, open, agile, and fosters innovation, flexibility, and creativity, encouraging employees to be authentic and productive.

Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of planning, executing, delivering, and monitoring key initiatives within your area, ensuring timely progress and smooth handoffs.
  • Break down work for engineering teams to facilitate rapid and smooth shipping, write PRDs, and manage rituals to ensure team alignment.
  • Champion product discovery through rapid experimentation and prototyping before handing off to engineering.
  • Maintain a flexible roadmap driven by new insights, gather feedback on opportunities and risks, and conduct data analysis to inform strategy.
  • Map and manage stakeholder networks to ensure a shared understanding of product development and expected customer value.
  • Empathize with customers by collaborating with UX, data, and engineering to identify pain points and create excellent user experiences.
  • Maintain product documentation, monitor market trends, and support Group PMs with commercial agreements and external suppliers.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of product management experience with a track record of taking ideas from discovery to launch and user adoption.
  • Experience in startups or fast-moving scale-ups requiring self-direction and problem-solving without a rigid framework.
  • Demonstrated customer focus, consistently considering their experience and ensuring attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with AI for prototyping and data analysis for independent query writing and idea testing.
  • A natural inclination for discovery and experimentation, comfortable collaborating with UX and engineering to test assumptions and build lean MVPs.
  • Experience managing complex stakeholder environments, building trust, and aligning teams around a shared vision.
  • Flexibility and focus, maintaining composure in ambiguous situations, effectively juggling competing priorities, and balancing risk with business value.
  • A keen interest in the broader market, competitor activities, and the integration of business cases and ROI into product decisions.
