About the Role

Pleo is seeking a Staff Engineer to join the Web Core team, which is responsible for enabling product engineers to build and ship high-quality web software. This team owns the foundations of the web stack, including tooling, patterns, architecture, and developer workflow reliability, while partnering with product teams to improve delivery speed, safety, and consistency.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain a web platform for efficient web experience delivery.
Drive technical excellence across Pleo’s web applications, focusing on architecture, patterns, quality, performance, and accessibility.
Improve developer experience (DX) through tooling, CI reliability, and fast feedback loops.
Steward shared web foundations (libraries, conventions, golden paths) and support their adoption.
Facilitate and contribute to the broader frontend community at Pleo.
Set technical direction for parts of the web platform and drive alignment across teams.
Identify and execute on high-leverage opportunities in web engineering (quality, delivery speed, reliability).
Partner with product engineers and leads to design ecosystem-wide solutions.
Build and evolve internal tooling, frameworks, and golden paths that scale.
Improve the reliability and usability of CI and local developer workflows.
Coach and mentor engineers, and foster technical leadership within the frontend community.
Contribute hands-on code, blending strategy with execution.

Requirements

Building and maintaining complex web applications at scale.
TypeScript and modern frontend engineering (React experience is a plus).
Designing maintainable systems, including frontend-facing APIs and platform boundaries.
Testing practices and tooling (unit, integration, end-to-end) and a strong quality mindset.
CI/CD and developer productivity improvements (faster, more reliable feedback loops).
Observability and monitoring practices for web systems (metrics, logging, tracing, alerting).
Working effectively across teams and stakeholders.
Communicating tradeoffs clearly.
