About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Java Engineer to develop high-impact technology that addresses complex business challenges. This role is ideal for individuals who excel at designing scalable, performant, and reliable systems, communicating effectively with stakeholders, and transforming ambiguous requirements into high-quality software. The position is within the BlackRock Global Markets In-Business Technology group in London, part of a global team focused on solving complex business challenges.

Responsibilities

Partner with business users and stakeholders to define functional and non-functional requirements, documenting assumptions and clarifying open questions.
Translate complex business and technical requirements into sequenced delivery tasks, identifying dependencies and documenting assumptions and open questions.
Architect, design, develop, test, and support Java-based applications.
Communicate requirements, assumptions, design options, selected decisions, and rationale clearly and concisely.
Contribute to technical design and code reviews.
Improve reliability, observability, and performance.
Support production releases in line with team standards.
Suggest and champion SDLC process improvements that enhance quality, reliability, or delivery efficiency.

Requirements

8+ years of development experience, preferably in the financial services industry, with Java as the primary programming language.
Experience designing and building performant applications that handle large volumes, concurrency, and/or latency-sensitive workloads.
Experience building applications with Spring, Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservice architecture, and event-driven systems and middleware.
Experience with relational and cloud-based data platforms.
Experience with Agile delivery practices, DevOps tooling, CI/CD, and automation.
Experience with distributed event streaming and messaging platforms.
Motivated team player with a flexible, open-minded approach.
Strong analytical capability and attention to detail.
Strong ownership mindset, with experience supporting production systems and driving issues to resolution.
High integrity and alignment with BlackRock’s fiduciary culture.
