About the Role
As Director of Engineering, you will lead the teams building AI agents for GRC work. This hands-on technical leadership role involves managing daily engineering execution, developing engineers and managers, and making architectural decisions. You will ensure the accurate, secure, and reliable delivery of agents that review evidence, answer security questionnaires, assess vendors, and map controls across various frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Own delivery and run engineering execution across multiple teams with weekly ship cycles.
- Build and lead the team by hiring, onboarding, and developing senior engineers and managers.
- Guide the architecture of LLM orchestration, retrieval, evaluation, and agentic workflow systems.
- Establish practical standards for code review, testing, LLM evaluations, observability, on-call, and incident response.
- Partner with security and GRC leads to meet enterprise security, privacy, and deployment requirements.
- Work with product and GRC experts to translate customer feedback and agent failure patterns into prioritized engineering work.
Requirements
- Strong engineering background with the ability to review code and identify architectural issues.
- Shipped LLM, agentic, or ML systems to production.
- Experience in evaluation, context management, and differentiating demos from production systems.
- Experience growing engineering teams through Series A/B funding stages.
- Experience developing engineers into leaders.
- Focus on shipping production-ready software and removing process bottlenecks.
- Experience building in domains where accuracy is critical, such as security, compliance, fintech, or health.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience.
- 4+ years managing engineers.
- 2+ years leading managers or multiple teams.
- Hands-on experience shipping AI/ML, LLM, or agentic systems to production for enterprise customers.
- Demonstrated experience hiring and scaling engineering teams at a high-growth, product-led company.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Background in security, infrastructure, GRC, or enterprise SaaS is a plus.
- Experience as a founder or early engineering leader is a plus.
- Experience meeting enterprise security requirements (SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP) is a plus.
- A network of strong engineers in the Bay Area is a plus.
