About the Role
The Patient Advocate Specialist identifies, educates, and enrolls eligible hospital patients into the Health Insurance Premium Payment (HIPP) program, which allows Medicaid beneficiaries to access employer-sponsored coverage for broader networks and more comprehensive care. - Gather necessary authorizations and documentation to advance an application.
- Build trust with patients while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Collect complete and accurate application data, including employer details, plan information, premium costs, and dependent information.
- Solve problems that stall a case, such as unresponsive employers, missing paperwork, and eligibility questions.
- Hand off cases cleanly to PFA's State Operations and Benefit & Advocacy teams for submission, approval, and post-enrollment support.
- Own the caseload from first contact to enrollment.
- Explain how employer coverage and Medicaid work together.
- Verify and update ongoing eligibility to prevent loss of coverage.
- Assist patients in resolving insurance issues as they arise.
- Manage referrals and patient records in PFA's CRM.
- Upload, scan, and securely transmit documentation.
- Document every patient interaction in compliance with HIPAA and internal standards.
- Work comfortably on an iPad and iPhone throughout the day.
- Represent PFA on-site as the primary contact for hospital staff.
- Build working relationships with case managers, social workers, financial counselors, state agency contacts, and community partners.
- Protect PFA's reputation within the health system through professional interactions.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Full Bilingual proficiency in Spanish.
- 2 or more years in a patient-facing or customer-facing role measured on activity or outcomes (healthcare settings preferred; retention, enrollment, collections, member services, and inside sales backgrounds are transferable).
