About the Role

You will work with customers to help them design better proteins and optimize their experimental outcomes by bridging their design models and our automated lab. This role is particularly focused on supporting ARIA's second cohort of Activation Partners, leveraging the UK's first AI-native automated wet lab in London.

Responsibilities

  • Lead scientific projects with customers, translating biological questions into protein design and experimental strategies.
  • Guide protein design strategy by advising on appropriate approaches like de novo design, diffusion models, protein language models, structure prediction, and physics-based methods.
  • Analyze experimental data (binding, expression, stability) to inform subsequent design iterations.
  • Develop new experimental capabilities by creating, validating, and integrating novel assays onto the automation platform in collaboration with Creator teams and internal scientists.
  • Shape future ARIA programmes by understanding upcoming experimental needs and preparing accordingly with ARIA Programme Directors.
  • Build long-term scientific partnerships and integrate learnings into product, science, and platform roadmaps.

Requirements

  • Strong protein science foundation with a degree and/or hands-on experience in protein design, computational biology, biochemistry, structural biology, or a related field.
  • Deep hands-on experience with biophysical characterization methods such as SPR, BLI, or nanoDSF.
  • Fluency in modern protein design approaches, understanding their strengths, limitations, and applications.
  • Strong quantitative skills, including proficiency with Python, notebooks, and basic statistics for analyzing experimental data.
  • Excellent scientific communication abilities to collaborate effectively with researchers and articulate trade-offs.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, including forming hypotheses, designing experiments, and iterating on solutions for underspecified scientific problems.
  • High sense of ownership and responsibility for scientific outcomes.
