About the Role
Xanadu is seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead the PennyLane Core Quantum Software team, which develops an open-source framework for quantum computing, quantum machine learning, and quantum chemistry. While quantum software experience is not required, an advanced scientific degree is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of 7-10 developers to build new features and improve the performance of the PennyLane framework.
- Collaborate with Product Managers to define the team's direction and roadmap.
- Participate in sprints with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient and timely feature delivery.
- Work closely with the product team to drive library adoption and establish feedback loops with external stakeholders.
- Develop and enhance processes for developer efficiency, adherence to software best practices, and consistent product delivery.
- Maintain team responsiveness to bugs, issues, and external open-source contributions.
- Conduct team-building activities including hiring, mentorship, career development, and performance management.
Requirements
- Advanced degree in Physics, Math, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 7+ years of software development experience.
- 2+ years of management experience.
- Ability to understand and apply complex mathematical concepts.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience building and shipping software to support a large user base.
- Expertise in quantum computing.
- Experience designing and implementing domain-specific languages and compilers.
- Experience developing open-source software.
- Familiarity with machine learning software fundamentals (e.g., JAX, PyTorch).
