About the Role

This Senior Legal Counsel will be integral to the product lifecycle, from conception to launch, addressing novel legal and regulatory challenges to provide actionable guidance for the business. The role involves developing the necessary judgment and processes to manage future complexities alongside current issues.

Responsibilities

Advise the business on the full product lifecycle, from initial concept through launch, supporting the global development, launch, and scaling of PPRO's payment products, including digital asset and stablecoin initiatives.
Review and negotiate commercial agreements, including partner agreements and contracts related to new product development.
Draft and maintain customer-facing legal documents for new products, such as terms and conditions and disclosures for AI-driven features.
Provide guidance on the regulatory aspects of product features, the onboarding of new payment methods, and market expansion, potentially involving cross-border data flows, data protection, privacy, and payment services regulation.
Advise on legal and regulatory questions concerning digital assets, including stablecoins, covering e-money and payment services classification, custody, cross-border transfer rules, and emerging digital asset regulations.
Serve as the primary expert on AI, including agentic AI, addressing associated liability, governance, data usage, contracting for AI tools, and evolving regulatory frameworks.
Monitor legal and regulatory developments and assist in implementing necessary changes.
Collaborate with compliance and risk teams to integrate legal considerations into PPRO's product lifecycle and go-to-market strategies.
Enhance legal and governance processes at PPRO, exploring AI tool applications to improve the legal team's efficiency.
Advise the business on ad hoc legal matters, including intellectual property, corporate law, and disputes.
Liaise with external counsel and translate their advice into understandable and implementable guidance for the broader business.

Requirements

UK or EU qualified lawyer with 8+ years of experience in the financial services, payments, and/or technology sectors.
Strong background in regulatory, privacy, and commercial law.
Hands-on experience with payments and digital assets, including stablecoins.
In-depth knowledge of how AI, including agentic AI, is impacting products and regulations.
Good working knowledge of financial regulation, including UK and EU payment services regulation.
Extensive experience advising on data protection and privacy (UK GDPR, EU GDPR, cross-border data transfers).
Comfortable with technology, enabling detailed discussions with engineers and understanding technical conversations.
Ability to work independently in ambiguous situations and identify mitigation strategies.
Skill in translating complex legal or technical issues into plain English.
Strong sense of ownership and drive to complete complex legal matters.
Open, flexible, and team-oriented approach with excellent communication skills.
