About the Role

We are hiring a Principal Engineer for our New York office to set technical direction for the company. You will define what AI-first product development looks like in practice, including UI/UX, capabilities, data models, and underlying systems. This is a hands-on role where you will spend most of your time building and leading through the quality of your thinking and work.

Responsibilities

  • Set technical direction and own the architecture for major product areas.
  • Make architectural decisions that shape the platform for years to come.
  • Write code to implement architectural decisions.
  • Take on ambiguous, high-stakes, cross-cutting technical challenges.
  • Address reliability at scale, evaluation and quality systems for AI agents, and foundational engineering work.
  • Define how the team builds with AI, including designing tooling, guardrails, and feedback loops for coding agents.
  • Exercise judgment to determine when AI-generated output is ready for shipping.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience shipping software.
  • Experience as a staff- or principal-level engineer at a company with high engineering standards.
  • Experience setting technical direction for a product or platform and managing the consequences.
  • Experience leading ambiguous, high-stakes projects from inception to production across the full stack.
  • Ability to make other engineers better through design reviews, mentorship, and code examples.
  • Experience using coding agents as a core part of the development workflow, not just as autocomplete.
  • Opinions on how teams should effectively use coding agents.
  • Desire to be an early member of a fast-moving company with real scope, ownership, and upside.
