About the Role
This is Edison's first dedicated finance hire, reporting to the Head of Operations. The role involves owning the company's financial operating system, including building the core financial model, overseeing books, managing compute spend, and ensuring deal alignment with business objectives. It's a strategic and operational role for a financial generalist comfortable with both big-picture definition and day-to-day execution in a fast-paced startup environment.
Responsibilities
- Own Edison’s books.
- Build and maintain the financial model, cash forecast, and runway view.
- Report on spend by team, vendor, and program.
- Own revenue recognition, invoicing, and collections on pharma and biotech contracts.
- Own the finance stack (ERP, billing, procurement, expense) and keep it simple.
- Partner on payroll, benefits, and equity administration.
- Support headcount planning and budgeting with each function lead.
- Model major commitments (compute, data acquisition, facilities).
- Support and advise on commercial deals on pricing, structure, and margin.
- Prepare board and investor reporting.
Requirements
- Typically, 4-7 years of experience in operations, finance, consulting or a similar business-side role.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling experience.
- Executive level communication skills.
- Comfort working in ambiguity, context-switching, and high intensity.
- Actively uses AI tools to create leverage across daily work: automating tasks, optimizing workflows, and directing agents where appropriate.
