About the Role
We are a consulting team within EY Strategy and Consulting that helps organizations improve how work is performed across people, processes, and systems. For this engagement, we are seeking an experienced Lease Accounting Implementation Specialist to support a global client as it adopts new lease accounting standards. This is a hands-on, project-based role for accounting professionals who can work independently, manage their own workstream, and coordinate with finance and business stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of lease accounting standards across the organization
- Assess current lease accounting processes, controls, and data requirements
- Coordinate the collection, validation, and analysis of lease contract information
- Support lease inventory creation, data cleansing, and migration
- Support the interpretation of lease accounting requirements and the application of accounting policy, for client review and approval
- Prepare journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting documentation for lease balances
- Support fixed asset and depreciation accounting for right-of-use assets
- Prepare J-GAAP to IFRS / US GAAP adjustment schedules and supporting HQ reporting packs
- Support the tax adjustment schedules affected by lease accounting changes
- Work with Finance, Accounting, Procurement, Real Estate, Legal, and other teams to gather project information
- Identify implementation risks, issues, and dependencies, and support their resolution
- Support the development of accounting procedures, process documentation, and operating manuals
- Support system configuration, testing, and user acceptance activities where applicable
- Prepare audit schedules and evidence, and support the client in working with internal and external auditors
- Communicate with local teams in Japanese, giving status updates, and raising issues appropriately
Requirements
- 5 to 8 years in accounting, finance transformation, accounting advisory, or consulting
- Hands-on experience with an accounting standard implementation or a major accounting change
- Strong knowledge of IFRS 16, ASC 842, or J-GAAP lease accounting requirements
- Strong Excel and financial data analysis skills
- Currently eligible to work in Japan
