About the Role

AfterQuery is hiring a Research Program Manager to run the operations behind its research programs, including public benchmark releases, academic and industry collaborations, and the research roadmap. This is a technical, hands-on role where you will own coordination, external relationships, and progress tracking, with the opportunity to contribute to research itself. You will be the program's voice to external partners, requiring clear writing and confident communication.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the point of contact for collaborations with academic and industry partners, running each from scoping through delivery.
  • Coordinate benchmark releases end to end, from launch checklist through publication, and maintain releases on cadence.
  • Maintain AfterQuery's leaderboards and benchmark sites, verifying every result before publication.
  • Track progress across all active research projects, anticipate resourcing gaps and technical bottlenecks, and unblock projects.
  • Coordinate the expert pool for upcoming benchmarks, forecasting needs, managing capacity, and maintaining contributor logistics.
  • Write the program's external and internal communications, including launch briefs, partner updates, planning documents, and status memos.

Requirements

  • 1-3+ years in research operations, technical program management, or a similar role.
  • Technical background in computer science, machine learning, statistics, or a related field.
  • Working Python and SQL.
  • Experience evaluating products, agents, or foundation models, reading results tables, and identifying untrustworthy numbers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill technical results into actionable summaries.
  • Track record of running cross-functional programs end to end, including managing external partners or collaborators.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and building processes from scratch, with a focus on keeping processes light.
  • Graduate degree or research experience in a technical field (preferred).
  • Contribution to a benchmark, dataset, or evaluation project (preferred).
  • Familiarity with public leaderboards or open research communities (preferred).
  • Exposure to programs with external partners, such as fellowships, grants, or academic collaborations (preferred).
  • Exposure to expert or annotator pools, or other human-data work (preferred).
  • Comfort with lightweight dashboards or building small tools with AI assistants (preferred).
