About the Role
The Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team partners with Engine's marketplace to own demand partner integrations and custom development. This player-coach role will accelerate the team by establishing repeatable delivery standards, governing AI-native build practices, leading high-stakes partner engagements, and building credibility with internal stakeholders. This hybrid leadership/individual contributor role will shape FDE strategy, define best practices, and lead critical integrations.
Responsibilities
- Own technical strategy for demand-side delivery across the partner portfolio, setting standards adopted across FDE and SE
- Develop standard operating procedures/processes with management and cross-functional leaders, implementing best practices to accelerate the team
- Take ownership of complex, ambiguous, or net-new-vertical integrations end-to-end
- Transform bespoke builds into repeatable motions through shared modules, templates, and runbooks
- Architect and govern AI-native engineering practices, including code-gen pipelines, mapping automation, test-scaffolding agents, and human-review gates
- Mentor FDEs through design and code review to elevate the team's engineering standard
- Drive structured Product/Engineering feedback loops to reduce future bespoke work and free up team bandwidth
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in a senior/staff integration, platform, or forward-deployed engineering role
- People leadership or strong informal team leadership experience preferred
- Production-quality code in Scala and/or Python
- Comfort with Node.js/TypeScript for SDKs and tooling
- Deep REST/JSON API fluency, including auth, idempotency, schema evolution, versioning, and operational aspects like monitoring and incident response
- Proven track record of establishing reusable architecture, tooling, or playbooks that scaled team output
- Fluency with AI-native workflows, utilizing tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot as accelerators and understanding when to use deterministic approaches
- Comfort leading technical working sessions directly with partner engineering teams
- Ability to identify patterns and package novel solutions into repeatable formats
