About the Role

The Sr. Counsel, Compliance & Investigations will promote Pinterest’s strong culture of compliance and ethics by owning the implementation and improvement of the internal compliance investigations program, conducting sensitive investigations, and managing the global compliance investigations portfolio. This role will also manage compliance operations initiatives related to internal investigations, including policies, systems, reports, metrics, and controls.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the end-to-end compliance investigations process, including conducting and managing all aspects of Pinterest’s Compliance investigations program, working closely with fellow compliance team members and cross-functional partners like Employment Legal, Human Resources, Finance, and Security
Advise on and make recommendations for investigation outcomes, conduct root cause analysis and recommend improvements and/or remedial actions
Promote best-practices relating to the conduct of investigations and fine-tune investigation procedures, including maintaining program materials, mentor and oversee the work of junior or contract investigators, as needed, and identify and implement appropriate use cases for technology and AI.
Identify trends and themes, including in root causes and disciplinary results, including to drive fairness in program application and outcomes
Prepare and provide updates on investigations, trends and learnings, to internal stakeholders, including senior management, compliance leadership, and Pinterest’s Board of Directors, as appropriate
Drive embedding our “speak up” values more deeply into our corporate culture while ensuring compliance with requirements of evolving global whistleblower laws and regulations
Engage with stakeholders on compliance and disclosure matters, including responding to requests for information and assisting in audit responses, and support responses to law enforcement inquiries, subpoenas, and external investigations
Provide counsel on legal and regulatory issues that arise in connection with investigation matters, as well as general compliance matters, including conflicts of interest, third party due diligence and audits and other matters, as needed.

Requirements

Juris Doctorate from an accredited U.S. law school
Experience at a top law firm and/or in-house legal and compliance department
Experience conducting complex and sensitive investigations for 7 or more years.
Must be admitted to the bar of at least one state with ability to provide legal services from state of residence
Excellent analytical skills and strong and clear verbal and written communications skills.
Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with cross-functional and cross-business teams at all levels of the organization to achieve results.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and can prioritize and manage a high-volume workload while working independently, with minimal supervision.
Flexibility to adjust working hours as needed to support business needs.
Minimum of 3 years experience in employment law
Experience providing legal counsel on a wide range of compliance issues, including conflicts of interest, third party audits and incident management.
Experience building compliance programs and effecting change management.
Strong understanding of the elements of an effective compliance program for a publicly-traded, global company
Superior teamwork skills, with ability to gain the respect of, and build a rapport with, multiple constituencies, internally and externally
Self-starter and ownership mentality, ability to work independently and collaboratively
