About the Role
As a Fleet Driver I, you'll ensure CarMax operations run smoothly by transporting vehicles to the right place, on time. This role is for professionals who value safety, reliability, and integrity, offering consistent schedules and competitive pay with routes designed to get you home daily.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards using company hauler.
- Maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation.
- Load, secure, transport, and unload CarMax vehicles safely and efficiently, including hands-on freight handling, ladder climbing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Move vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors using a company-provided truck, keeping equipment clean, well-maintained, and operationally ready.
- Deliver vehicles accurately and on time to support inventory flow and keep customers and stores on schedule.
- Represent CarMax professionally by interacting with vendors, store associates, and the public in a way that reflects company values.
Requirements
- 21 years of age or older with a valid state-issued driver’s license.
- Clean driving record with no serious violations in the past three years.
- Meet CarMax’s Driver Safety Evaluation criteria.
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to secure, block, and restrain vehicles during transport.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks including pulling, torquing, and tensioning chains, binders, and straps to meet FMCSA and CarMax load securement standards.
- Ability to climb, bend, and kneel to access and secure vehicles on multi-level transport decks.
- Ability to meet DOT & FMCSA qualification requirements.
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and inclement weather.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with adherence to CarMax policies and safety standards.
- Works efficiently and uses time wisely.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the state.
- 2+ years of Class A CDL driving experience (Military heavy/medium tactical vehicle experience considered) OR 2+ years of Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driving experience at CarMax (non-Class A CMV experience is acceptable).

Salary/Compensations
- $29.80 - $50.70 per hour
Benefits
- Paid sick time (up to 48 hours per year)
- Paid vacation time (80-200 hours per year after 90-day waiting period, depending on years of service)
- Paid holidays (6 scheduled holidays + 1 floating holiday)
- Holiday Premium Pay if working on a scheduled holiday
- Paid time away for full-time salaried associates with no specified limit for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
