About the Role

Relay is a digital banking platform designed to empower self-made business owners with financial clarity, confidence, and control. The Data Platform team, which you will lead, is responsible for the foundational elements of Relay's data infrastructure, including real-time data, observability, and AI capabilities.

Responsibilities

Lead and grow a senior team of data engineers, providing direction and challenging thinking.
Own Snowflake cost, developing and executing a plan to reduce costs month over month.
Define and drive the approach to real-time data and platform enablement, including streaming and AI tooling.
Build observability to proactively identify and address platform issues.
Translate platform work into business outcomes by linking technical investments to business value.
Balance speed against technical debt, making informed decisions on when to prioritize business value or development time.
Manage the team's operating rhythm, including standups, planning, architectural decisions, and code review.

Requirements

At least two years of experience managing engineers, including senior team members.
Deep, hands-on production experience with Snowflake and dbt, including building data models.
Experience owning a production data platform and leading improvements.
Ability to challenge decisions with curiosity and find paths that serve both engineering concerns and business deadlines.
Proficiency in leading with context, explaining the problem, metric, and business case before architecture.
High fluency with AI tools, both in personal work and guiding a team.
Experience with AWS or GCP.
Experience with Dagster or another data orchestrator.
Experience with Fivetran and Hightouch.
Experience with Terraform.
Experience with Kafka or other real-time data infrastructure.
