About the Role
We are modernizing the Invoca platform for product-led growth by rethinking its feel and performance, with a strong focus on stewarding a new modern design language called Rapport. Rapport is a living system of tokens, components, patterns, documentation, and tooling that designers and engineers depend on to build with speed, quality, and consistency. In the AI-native era, Rapport must be machine-readable as well as human-readable, supporting AI tools in generating product UI.
Responsibilities
- Define and evolve Invoca’s visual language, establishing system-level decisions for color, typography, spacing, iconography, motion, and interaction.
- Own the design architecture of Rapport, evolving tokens, foundations, components, and patterns to scale across Invoca’s product ecosystem.
- Make consequential system decisions, defining naming conventions, semantic relationships, abstraction levels, and the balance between flexibility and constraint.
- Establish design principles and tenets for design system usage to provide a clear framework for high-quality decisions.
- Raise the visual quality bar across the platform, acting as a final eye for system-level visual and interaction quality.
- Evolve Rapport for AI-native experiences, defining patterns and foundations that support intelligent, adaptive, generative, and agentic product experiences.
- Make the system machine-readable by structuring tokens, patterns, documentation, and metadata for consumption by AI coding tools and generative UI workflows.
- Partner deeply with Engineering on implementation fidelity, understanding technical realities and advocating for design intent.
- Partner with the Head of Design and Product Designers to help teams build with Rapport effectively, identifying friction and gaps.
- Shape design system governance, creating contribution models, review processes, and quality standards.
- Connect the system to the broader customer experience, ensuring Rapport evolves around customer interactions.
- Champion accessibility, consistency, and usability as foundational qualities of the system.
- Influence the future of product design at Invoca by demonstrating how a modern design system can accelerate designers, engineers, and AI.
Requirements
- Exceptional product designer with deep systems thinking and strong attention to visual craft.
- Experience working on mature design systems, understanding architectural decisions and creating coherent languages.
- Comfortable in Figma, GitHub, and engaging in design system discussions with engineers and strategic conversations with product leadership.
- Expert-level visual and product design craft, with a sophisticated understanding of design principles.
- Strong visual point of view, able to articulate design decisions and hold a high-quality bar.
- Ability to evolve a mature design language without fragmentation, balancing consistency with team needs.
- Skill in making complex token and architecture decisions understandable to non-specialists.
- Interest in making design systems more machine-readable and AI-native, understanding semantic naming and token architecture.
- Experience as a quality bar holder for a system used by many designers, comfortable navigating disagreement and maintaining standards.
- Ability to build trust and avoid friction when making clear decisions.
