About the Role
Spangler’s Market is seeking a dependable, friendly, and organized Part-Time Produce Clerk for its West Portal, San Francisco location. This role involves supporting produce and deli set-up operations, handling food with care, and making customer connections in a fast-paced retail environment.
Responsibilities
- Answers customer questions, directs customers to items, documents requests, and listens to complaints when management is unavailable.
- Properly uses knives, sinks, price guns, and irrigation and climate control equipment.
- Cleans shelves, bins, cases, tables, and coolers.
- Bags or wraps purchased items for customers or display.
- Ensures product is placed in the produce area, cuts and preps produce, removes old produce, and properly displays items on shelves.
- Organizes produce shelves.
- Assists in the deli for morning setup and preparation duties.
- Troubleshoots equipment breakdowns and reports to management.
- Maintains a clean and orderly store environment.
- Cleans up spills and hazardous conditions.
- Reports potential shoplifters to management.
- Ensures the safety of self, co-workers, and customers.
- Reports safety-related accidents and incidents immediately to management.
- Follows all company and safety policies and procedures.
- Operates equipment safely.
- Sells products by providing customers with product information.
- Fulfills sanitation and safety guidelines.
- Attends staff meetings as scheduled.
- Lifts, pushes, or pulls up to 50 pounds.
Requirements
- Produce department experience is required.
- Ability to follow instructions, policies, and procedures.
- Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Strong communication skills and enjoyment of customer engagement.
- Consistently reliable with strong attendance and punctuality.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Previous grocery experience preferred.
- Experience in stocking preferred.
