About the Role
Preston Trading Post is seeking dependable, physically capable, and customer-focused Delivery Drivers to join our logistics team. In this role, you will represent the company directly in customers' homes, delivering high-end solid wood furniture and premium hearth appliances. You will operate a straight box truck and utilize specialized equipment, requiring physical stamina and meticulous care.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate a straight box truck on residential and commercial routes.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle safety inspections.
- Navigate various road and weather conditions safely.
- Maintain a clean truck cab and cargo box.
- Load, secure, transport, and unload heavy, high-value goods.
- Operate hydraulic tailgates, stair-climbing hand trucks, and other moving equipment.
- Navigate obstacles and avoid damage to products and property.
- Assemble dining tables, beds, and standard furniture components on-site.
- Position stoves in exact client hearth locations.
- Remove all packaging and protective wrap from the home.
- Greet homeowners with courtesy and professional etiquette.
- Inspect merchandise with the customer and complete required paperwork.
- Accurately calculate, collect, and secure outstanding balances on site.
- Communicate schedule updates or site issues with dispatch and management.
- Assist in receiving freight shipments, staging deliveries, and uncrating units.
- Support showroom floor moves and warehouse organization.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean, verifiable driving record.
- Must meet insurance underwriting standards.
- Ability to consistently lift, push, pull, and maneuver 75–100+ lbs individually.
- Ability to lift up to 400+ lbs using team-lift techniques and mechanical assists.
- Full physical mobility including continuous bending, kneeling, stooping, ascending/descending stairs, and standing throughout an 8- to 10-hour shift.
- Honest, drug-free, and dependable.
- Capable of being bonded/authorized to collect on-site funds.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Basic arithmetic skills for invoice reconciliations.
- Tidy personal appearance.
- Prior experience with straight box trucks (16'-26'), furniture delivery, appliance moving, or freight logistics is strongly preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong physical conditioning will be considered.
- Complete hands-on training for hydraulic lift gate and stair-climbing hand truck operation.
- Review regional bridge clearances, DOT weight station regulations, and winter traction protocols.
- Train on POS mobile payment processing, check verification, and bill-of-lading completion.
