About the Role

As one of Cable's earliest engineers, you will define how the company operates, its future potential, and its trajectory. You will own meaningful products end-to-end and create an agent-driven development platform to support the team in shipping excellent software.

Responsibilities

Own a substantial part of Cable, taking responsibility for meaningful products and capabilities within an AI-native utility company.
Work through commercial problems and customer experience, into product design, interface craft, data modelling, backend architecture, and security.
Build with agents as a core part of your craft, coordinating work across coding agents and managing their context.
Improve building workflows and turn successful approaches into reusable team workflows.
Help the whole team build by working alongside energy specialists and go-to-market colleagues to turn domain knowledge into working software.
Develop the agent-driven development platform to help colleagues take product ideas into production independently.
Shape engineering foundations by making deliberate decisions about architecture, software quality, security, and resilience.
Build systems that turn high-volume metering, market, and weather data into useful products and operational decisions.
Work with energy specialists to understand underlying economics and ensure software reflects business operations.

Requirements

3+ years of experience shipping software in a leading startup or a larger company with high engineering standards.
Deep understanding of the modern full-stack software stack.
Ability to take a product from an ambiguous problem through to a well-designed interface and reliable underlying systems.
Recognize AI tooling as a fundamental way of working and coordinate work across multiple coding agents.
Actively improve workflows and be excited to push the frontier of what AI tools make possible.
Care about good software and take responsibility for its quality in production.
Know when a decision needs careful design, when a simple solution is enough, and how to keep a system understandable and resilient.
Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information, adjusting as you learn, and taking responsibility for what you ship.
Communicate clearly, show kindness, share learning, and build strong relationships with teammates.
