About the Role
The Senior Solutions Architect, Data leads the technical response on data platform opportunities within CDW UK's Data & AI practice. They design modern data platforms that enable customers to collect, store, integrate, process, govern, and analyze their data, creating a trusted, secure, scalable, and cost-efficient foundation for data-driven decisions and AI. The role focuses on modernizing customer data estates by transitioning them from legacy systems to modern lakehouse, warehouse, and federated designs on platforms like Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, and Starburst.
Responsibilities
- Advise customers on data strategy and target-state architecture, linking business priorities to a practical data platform roadmap.
- Lead the technical case for modernizing legacy data warehouses, databases, and fragmented data estates.
- Design end-to-end data platform architectures, including lakehouse, warehouse, federated, and data-product approaches.
- Design ingestion and integration patterns across batch, streaming, and change data capture (CDC).
- Design the logical storage layer, including open table formats, database selection, partitioning, retention, and lifecycle management.
- Design governance into every solution, covering cataloguing, lineage, ownership, business classification, data quality, and access policy.
- Design the semantic and business-model layer for consistent, trusted definitions for BI, self-service analytics, and AI.
- Ensure data platforms provide the quality, context, access, and governance needed for AI and machine learning.
- Build security, privacy, monitoring, reliability, and cost management into every layer of the architecture.
- Provide impartial, evidence-based advice across platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, and Starburst.
- Work with Solution Sales Specialists, Business Development Managers (BDMs), and partners to qualify opportunities and lead discovery workshops.
- Run customer-facing demonstrations and help scope proofs of value.
- Produce high-quality solution designs, high-level designs (HLDs), RFP responses, business cases, TCO, and ROI models.
- Act as the data platforms link between AI, Hybrid Platforms, Cloud, and Security architects, and delivery teams.
- Help create and develop the Data Platforms go-to-market, including reference architectures, modernisation assessments, demonstrations, and packaged offerings.
- Build strong technical relationships with data platform partners.
- Keep expert knowledge up to date through hands-on lab time, research, and training.
- Track emerging data platform trends and share practical insights internally and externally.
Requirements
- Typically 5+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or analytics platforms.
- At least 3 years in a customer-facing pre-sales, consulting, or solution architecture role.
- Proven track record of designing enterprise data platforms with clear examples of architectural decisions and trade-offs.
- Demonstrable experience leading data estate modernization.
- Deep expertise in at least one modern data platform (Databricks, Snowflake, or Microsoft Fabric) with working knowledge of alternatives.
- Strong understanding of data architecture patterns, including lakehouse, data warehouse, federated/virtualised data, data mesh, and data products.
- Solid knowledge of data modelling, including dimensional, medallion, and domain-oriented approaches, and designing semantic layers.
- Experience designing ingestion and integration patterns, including batch, streaming, CDC, ETL/ELT, and orchestration.
- Good understanding of relational and non-relational databases, open table formats, and data storage and lifecycle design.
- Practical knowledge of data governance, including cataloguing, lineage, data quality, ownership, classification, and access policy.
- Understanding of data security, privacy, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to model and explain the costs of consumption-based data platforms and build defensible TCO and ROI cases.
- Sufficient hands-on ability in SQL and Python to build credible demonstrations and test designs.
- Experience leading discovery workshops and communicating clearly with technical and business stakeholders.
- Ability to produce high-quality solution designs, proposals, and RFP responses.
