About the Role
This program focuses on developing Assistant Store Managers (ASM), who are crucial for the efficient and profitable operation of the store. The ASM assumes full responsibility for store operations in the absence of the Store Manager.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Store Manager in ensuring store cleanliness, safety, and inventory stocking.
- Assist with sales forecasts, scheduling, and labor monitoring to align with sales and productivity guidelines.
- Develop action plans to address cost control issues.
- Direct, oversee, and evaluate the training of perishable department Team Members to reduce turnover and control labor costs.
- Develop and maintain communication with other departments and the Store Manager to execute merchandising plans and meet financial objectives.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company regulations for labor, health, safety, and sanitation.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment for employees and customers.
- Ensure compliance with all OSHA requirements and other governmental regulations.
Requirements
- Must obtain or be in pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree (targeting May 2026 through May 2027 graduates).
- Must have retail experience or project exposure to the retail industry.
- Must be dependable and reliable.
- Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must have flexibility with store assignments.
- Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have the ability to give direction while participating in a team environment.
- Must exhibit outgoing and friendly behavior with a positive attitude.
- Must be able to interact with customers in an engaging manner.
- Must be able to manage department staff, including interviewing, hiring, training, development, performance appraisals, feedback, scheduling, counseling, and termination.
- Must possess proven leadership ability to build, motivate, and maintain staff.
- Must have a working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals.
- Must have a strong focus on detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to coordinate sales promotion activities.
- Must be able to prepare/supervise preparation of merchandise displays and advertising copy.
- Must be responsible for compliance, ensuring dates on merchandise are checked and expired food is removed.
- Must have the ability to deal with emergencies and crises.
- Must be able to write reports for accidents or other incidents.
- Must have and maintain Food Safety certification.
- Must have strong organization and planning skills.
- Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
- Must have the ability to lift moderately heavy loads up to 75 lbs.
- Must have the ability to bend, reach, kneel, squat, and stand for long periods.
