About the Role
We are building a stablecoin clearinghouse to make stablecoins move like money, not a trading asset. We need a backend engineer who can own the systems that move real value, including mint and burn flows, reserve accounting, reconciliation, settlement, integrations, and the APIs built on top of all of it.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate core backend services behind mint/burn flows, reserve accounting, reconciliation, and settlement pipelines.
- Integrate with banks, custody providers, stablecoin issuers, blockchains, and partner APIs, ensuring dependencies are safe for money movement.
- Build durable reconciliation and audit trails for tracking money movement and state verification.
- Design secure API surfaces and own monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and incident response for critical services.
- Contribute to the payments API and internal/admin surfaces, bridging backend ownership with customer and operations workflows.
- Identify and pursue product improvements proactively without waiting for specified tickets.
Requirements
- 5-12 years of production backend engineering experience, with a track record of designing, shipping, and operating services.
- Experience with high-value transactional systems such as payments, banking integrations, fintech infrastructure, trading or exchange infrastructure, ledgering, or stablecoin/crypto infrastructure.
- Proficiency in distributed systems fundamentals including consistency, eventing, idempotency, retries, durable reconciliation, ordering, partial failure, and observability.
- Demonstrated judgment for integrating with unreliable external systems like banks, payment rails, custody providers, and issuers.
- Experience designing secure APIs, managing secrets and access control, instrumenting services, and writing runbooks for critical infrastructure.
- Ability to translate ambiguous business and compliance requirements into technical systems and explain tradeoffs.
- Willingness and ability to work in person in New York City five days a week.
- Direct stablecoin or crypto infrastructure experience is a plus.
- Background at a payments or fintech company is a plus.
- Compliance-adjacent engineering experience is a plus.
- Ability to build or contribute to admin dashboards, API docs, or partner-facing workflows is a plus.
- Experience with Temporal or TigerBeetle is a plus.
- Experience with Rust or Python is a plus.
- Enthusiasm for building and running core infrastructure with AI coding agents and shaping an AI-first engineering culture is a plus.
