About the Role
Piq Energy's Product Manager will own products end-to-end, from understanding customer needs through development, rollout, and iteration. You’ll work alongside product-minded software engineers and power systems engineers to build a purpose-built agentic grid planning and interconnection platform for developers and utilities. The work is ambiguous. You’ll bring the judgment to choose what matters, the technical ability to build and test ideas, and the follow-through to get useful products into users’ hands quickly. You’ll own customer discovery and build relationships with both power systems experts and non-technical users, translating learnings into products that complete real planning work reliably and earn customers’ trust. Grid-planning expertise is preferred but not required; we seek someone who has independently led complex technical products, learns unfamiliar domains quickly, and takes responsibility for outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Own Discovery: Lead customer conversations, understand how power systems experts and project developers work, observe real tasks, test assumptions, and turn findings into specific product decisions.
- Decide What Ships Next: Identify the most valuable problem to solve, scope a useful first release, make tradeoffs explicit, resolve ambiguity, and sequence work for rapid iteration.
- Define the Work: Translate learnings into specifications, mockups, prototypes, or test cases, defining expected behavior, acceptance criteria, and edge cases for the team to build and test.
- Build and Ship: Use code and AI tools to prototype workflows, test ideas, and ship improvements directly or work hand-in-hand with Engineering on larger changes.
- Own Agent Product Quality: Partner with power systems engineers to define evaluation cases, test agent performance, and set release criteria.
- Close the Loop After Launch: Measure customer success and adoption, review usage and feedback to identify improvements, and communicate changes clearly.
Requirements
- 5+ years building and shipping technical software products in product management, engineering, or a combination thereof, with a track record of independently owning products from discovery through launch and iteration.
- A bias toward action, with the ability to identify a valuable first version, make sound decisions with incomplete information, and learn from shipping while maintaining a clear bar for quality.
- Experience building with LLMs or agents, with a practical understanding of their capabilities, failure modes, and evaluation methods.
- Strong customer discovery skills, including leading conversations with technical experts and their superiors, asking precise follow-up questions, and connecting workflow details to business priorities.
- Clear written and visual communication skills, capable of expressing product decisions through concise specs, mockups, prototypes, or evaluation cases.
- The judgment and independence to prioritize competing needs, resolve ambiguity with engineers, and take accountability for product outcomes.
- Passion for grid planning and interconnection, and demonstrated ability to become effective in an unfamiliar technical domain.
