About the Role
The 2D Supervisor plays a key role in driving the overall direction of the 2D department, managing projects, and developing the 2D team. This role involves leading creative and look development, supervising compositors, ensuring consistency, and managing the production workflow and pipeline.
Responsibilities
- Manage projects and work alongside other 2D Supervisors to develop the 2D Team.
- Lead creative and look development processes with VFX and CG Supervisors.
- Manage and supervise the team of compositors, providing briefings and constructive feedback.
- Ensure consistency and develop production methodologies, creative approaches, and problem-solving techniques.
- Manage the production workflow and pipeline, as well as production bidding.
- Work closely with production to schedule work.
- Review shots properly to avoid multiple back and forth of Tech Notes rounds.
- Direct tasks to junior, mid, and senior level artists.
- Take responsibility for the quality of work and review/finalize all frames before submission.
- Address technical fixes by understanding and interpreting technical notes.
- Work proactively and collaboratively with all other VFX and support departments.
- Attend client reviews and lead daily reviews with the Compositing team.
- Communicate client notes and deliver feedback and instructions to artists.
- Balance creative and technical aspects of each shot/sequence to ensure quality standards.
- Solve difficult technical and artistic compositing challenges.
- Guide the longer-term goals of the 2D department, including team building and pipeline development.
- Consider stereoscopic projects in pipeline development.
- Perform on-set VFX supervision for 2D-based projects.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a leadership role.
- Excellent communication skills with immediate team and other departments.
- Deep understanding of film VFX processes and pipeline.
- Expert user of Nuke.
- Critical eye for detail.
- Highly organised.
- Required to work from the office in London at least 2 days per week.
Skills
- Knowledge of python scripting is useful but not essential.
- Basic working knowledge of Maya and Photoshop is a plus.
- Familiarity with Linux and Windows Operating Systems.
