About the Role
Pinpoint is hiring a Staff Product Designer to be the sole designer on the Marketplace squad, working alongside product and engineering leads. This role is crucial for the next phase of growth, focusing on a part of the product that handles background checks, right-to-work verification, and other essential recruitment processes.
Responsibilities
- Own design for every usage-based feature in Pinpoint, end-to-end, from initial concept to shipped and measured.
- Ship the next phase of Pinpoint Checks, including DBS updates, automated routing, rechecks, and high compliance checks.
- Redesign credit visibility, self-serve costing, and in-platform credit management to improve customer understanding and usage.
- Shape Marketplace product strategy with the PM for 2027 and execute on it, sharing discovery responsibilities.
- Write detailed plans in tickets before development, documenting decisions, edge cases, and resolutions.
- Prototype in code when beneficial, submit small front-end fixes via PRs, and perform QA on shipped work.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Support, Sales, and Legal regarding check statuses and vendor data handling.
- Integrate Marketplace work into the weekly design critique and contribute new patterns to the Thumbtack design system.
Requirements
- Experience designing complex B2B software products with a PM and engineers, with demonstrable shipped work.
- Experience owning a product area as the sole or lead designer is a plus.
- Startup or scale-up experience and mentality, including comfort with small teams, minimal handoffs, and adaptability.
- Proven ability to design around constraints imposed by regulators, compliance rules, or third-party vendor APIs.
- Experience with multi-state workflows (e.g., orders, cases, applications, checks) where the system dictates the next step.
- Familiarity with enterprise-scale considerations such as permissions, configuration, multiple personas, and scalable flows.
- Daily use of AI across all job functions, including research, testing, bug investigation, prototyping, and documentation.
- Technical depth and willingness to learn to ship small PRs using AI coding tools.
- Production-ready UI craft demonstrated in a portfolio.
- Ability to make decisions and own outcomes when data is incomplete, explaining reasoning and solving problems proactively.
- Fluency in discussing commercial outcomes like margin, adoption, and conversion alongside design metrics.
- Bonus points for HR tech or ATS experience, and experience with credits, billing, or usage-based pricing.
- Must not require a dedicated research team, pre-defined brief, or backlog.
- Must be comfortable with adopting AI in daily work and not waiting to see how it evolves.
- Must prefer an Individual Contributor (IC) role on a single squad over owning a design system or leading a team.
- Portfolio should include enterprise customer-facing work, not solely agency or consumer app projects.
