About the Role
The Municipal Business Officer (MBO) is responsible for managing and servicing a portfolio of municipal clients. The MBO acts as the primary point of contact and financial advisor, prospecting new business with public entities and deepening existing relationships. This role also involves selling and servicing CDARS/ICS products to municipalities to enhance overall relationships.
Responsibilities
- Visits new and existing municipal customers to determine and recommend products/services.
- Identifies and attends appropriate conferences, prepares proposals, and bids on municipal opportunities.
- Works closely with branch personnel, providing mentoring and coaching on sales and customer service.
- Stays informed about Bank products/services for appropriate recommendations.
- Keeps apprised of changes to regulations governing municipal deposit and bond business and recommends modifications.
- Assists in pricing bids on local municipal debt obligations, gathering financial data for credit review, and attending debt closings.
- Makes recommendations to price services like lockbox to ensure profitability and maximize net income.
- Makes recommendations to Management regarding the proper sizing of the municipal deposit account base.
- Provides technical support and training to municipal customers on Digital Banking, Cash Management, and Lockbox.
- Provides cash management assistance and advice to retail branches to promote sales.
- Works on the annual budget with the team.
- Identifies cross-selling opportunities by working with channel partners.
- Maintains strong communication within the team and supports other MBO relationships.
- Opens new accounts and services existing ones for municipal and reciprocal deposit relationships.
- Stays apprised on current market rates and customer knowledge to facilitate profitable deposit rate offers.
- Networks with Centers of Influence (COI) and guides municipal teammates on strategies.
- Demonstrates operational excellence in identifying issues, finding solutions, and following through to resolution.
- Prepares collateral agreements, reviews balances to ensure collateral needs are met, and executes agreements for digital banking, cash management, and Lockbox.
- Demonstrates the standards and principles of the Five Star Bank experience.
- Incorporates high-performance behaviors of teamwork, leading by example, and service.
Requirements
- High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- 7+ years of Banking, Financial Services or business-related experience.
- 3+ years of experience with the municipal industry preferred.
- Excellent sales skills with a customer focus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact with all levels of staff and management.
- Working knowledge of Bank product and service offerings.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Ability to meet established deadlines.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to learn and utilize new and existing banking software applications.
- Able to regularly sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to travel frequently.
- Extensive computer usage is required.
- Ability to work evenings occasionally.
- Ability to work weekends occasionally.
