About the Role

Build and scale the Corporate IT department from the ground up, encompassing strategy, budgeting, and team structure. This role involves taking an end-to-end view across corporate IT, networking, infrastructure, cloud, security, and governance, while building an effective organization. We seek a leader who delegates to experts and makes strategic decisions, not a hands-on implementer.

  • Manage and mentor corporate engineers and network engineers.
  • Oversee temporary staff, contractors, and external vendor relationships.
  • Design and manage the IT budget from scratch.
  • Evaluate, select, and implement SaaS tools and enterprise IT services.
  • Oversee IT asset tracking and software license compliance.
  • Plan and execute information security measures and governance frameworks.
  • Drive response efforts for IT-related incidents and operational disruptions.
  • Lead preparations and responses for external audits, including ISMS compliance.
  • Coordinate with the legal team on IT-related contracts and compliance matters.
  • Report, propose, and align IT strategies with division heads, executive directors, and the Board of Directors.
  • Collaborate and align closely with internal stakeholders, including the R&D/Engineering department.
  • Establish long-term IT roadmaps aligned with business growth.

Requirements

  • Track record of leading multiple domains across Corporate IT, internal systems, and IT infrastructure.
  • Proven experience leading IT projects or engineering teams.
  • Experience managing external vendors, consultants, and contractors.
  • Strong track record in defining requirements and managing priority trade-offs with internal stakeholders.
  • Foundational knowledge across networking, cloud, SaaS, endpoint management, and security, with the ability to engage in technical discussions with domain specialists.
  • Ability to make sound engineering judgments and execute appropriate escalations during outages or security incidents.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills for interacting with executive leadership and management teams.
  • Ability to articulate the reasoning and thought process behind your decisions.
  • Possess both strategic management capabilities and practical, hands-on comprehension to drive execution.
  • Ability to engage as a peer with technical specialists and make informed, authoritative decisions.

About the Company

  • Currently, the Corporate IT Department has no full-time employees. Day-to-day operations are handled by temporary staff and external technical advisors; however, there is a lack of leadership to determine departmental strategy, set priorities, manage budgets, and oversee security and IT governance.
  • In parallel with recruiting corporate engineers and network engineers, we are hiring a Department Head / Manager to bring these efforts together and lead the team.
  • Rather than stepping into a pre-established team, you will lead the phase of building a permanent, in-house Corporate IT organization from the ground up.
  • Instead of merely managing an inherited budget, you have the opportunity to design and establish the entire IT budgeting and financial framework yourself.
  • You will operate close to top leadership—presenting proposals and aligning strategy directly with division heads, executive directors, and the Board of Directors.
  • With vast room for improvement, you can drive high-impact initiatives across SaaS rationalization, security posture, and IT operational design.
  • Your impact extends beyond traditional back-office IT; you will shape and support the core infrastructure that powers cutting-edge AI and robotics R&D environments.
  • As we are in a greenfield build phase, our departmental policies, budgets, and organizational structure are all being established from scratch. You will frequently encounter unprecedented situations where you must take initiative, exercise independent judgment, and forge the path forward.
  • Globally, there are few projects that collect data on such a large scale and develop foundation models, and as mentioned above, significant funding has been provided by NEDO. This is one of Japan’s leading national projects.
  • This role offers a rare opportunity to engage directly, from the inside, at the core of a large-scale national project. It will allow you to gain unique experience that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
  • In addition, there will be many opportunities to collaborate with supporting member companies and startups, providing an environment where you can explore diverse career opportunities both inside and outside the association.
  • We currently operate out of a spacious office and research facility of over 1,000 m² located in the Ryutsu Center area. In this space, our business teams and engineering teams work in close collaboration, advancing both day-to-day operations and R&D with AI robots always close at hand.
  • The facility is frequently visited not only by members of the AI Robot Association, but also by engineers and researchers from partner companies and representatives from member companies. As a result, it serves as a hub where diverse experts at the forefront of AI and robotics gather and interact.
  • Today, highly skilled engineers and researchers from around the world are part of our organization. Some members have even relocated from overseas to Japan to join our projects on site.
  • We aim to build a globally open R&D organization where diverse talent, regardless of nationality or background, come together, inspire one another, and shape the future.
